Of the twin lambs born last night, we lost one during the early evening hours today. Out in the open, Madison found the mother laying atop the baby. Both lambs were doing fine just hours before – they seemed to enjoy the warm day, as did their mother. Needless to say, Madison was in tears when she told us about the mishap, with the lamb in her arms. We assume this happened due to the fact that this was the ewe’s first lambing and she didn’t have the necessary experience to handle twins. Having twins from a 1st-time mom is a blessing, but losing even one is often hard to accept… especially for a little girl.
