Question: What is 30 ft long, 10 ft wide and smells like crap?
Answer: Crap… of course.

It was barn cleaning time on the old homestead.  With the warmer weather, we concluded that the goats no longer needed the thick bedding-pack in the barn.  Over the next few days, we will continue to clean the barn.  To clean the main goat pen we used a skid-loader to do most of the work, but for the birthing pens and the larger pens that are used as a nurseries, it’s all fork work… good old-fashioned elbow grease.  Anyone want to help?

The fields are too muddy to attempt to spread the manure on the cropland.  Since we chose not to spread the manure, I piled it.  Once the ground firms, we’ll load it into a spreader and apply it to the fields.  We will be saving some of the manure for Carol’s garden.  Manure is WAY better for the soil than chemical fertilizers.  If we can’t use something natural on the soil, we won’t use anything.
