We should have a new baby lamb or two on the ground 5 months from now (maybe sooner). Carol and Madison noticed some goings-ons in the barn-yard tonight.
Dottie, our Katahdin-cross ewe was in ‘heat’ today. She caught the attention of our new ram Oreo. Dottie’s due date (if bred) is Feb. 21st, 2011. Oreo is an unproven ram… so here’s hoping. I guess we could have lambs as soon as Feb. 13th. We got him Sept. 13th and just because we didn’t see him do anything with the ewes doesn’t mean he hasn’t. Plus… it’s not uncommon for ewes to birth lambs 5 days either side of their due date.
The other ewes we will need to watch in Feb. will be the other Katahdins.
