Carol and I are coming to the conclusion that no bank will loan the farm $$$ so that we can move a house in. Most of the bankers have told us that there is no money to be made on a 160 acre farm. I guess I’m getting tired of the “Get big or get out” philosophy. With that, we decided to put a few bucks into sprucing up the farm.
Yesterday, I went to the lumber store to get a few 2″x6′s for the simple post & rail fence I was installing along one side of the drive. I had already dug-in the cedar posts a few days before, so once the lumber was home I just had to nail it up. For less than $150 we were able to put-up 170 ft of decorative fence. Now, maybe, strangers/guests will stop driving onto the little bit of yard we have. Both Carol, the kids and I think the new fence looks great. I would think that the money we just spent will easily show us a 300-400% return. As of today, we decided we are going to let the wood weather naturally.
Since we moved to the farm, we have resolved to make at least one major, esthetic improvement to the place every year. We want our friends, family and neighbors to be as proud of this place as we are.
I’ll post a pic or two of the fence tomorrow.
