In the past 36 hours, we have received 2.7″ of precipitation. I guess we should be grateful it’s not snow. Whatever the case, in the first 3 weeks of June, we have surpassed our monthly average of 5″. According to the local forecast, we have more rain on the way. 3 of the next 5 days could easily lead to more rain.
May was a damp month as well. Our average rainfall for May is less than 3¼” – we received nearly 5½”. Most of the area farmers were 3 weeks behind last year’s schedule in planting their crops. I guess we were lucky we farm such a small farm. We were able to finish our planting ahead of most.
The reason I ask if this is Washington was simple. When we were visiting my sister Tiff, a few years back, she took us to a rain forest. It was located in the north-western part of the state, not far from the ocean. The woods were damp, misty and many of the trees were green with algae. Well folks, the same thing is happening here in west-central Minnesota. When we look out the front door, into the grove, all of the mature trees have bark that is green.
