A few weeks ago, on our Facebook page, I mentioned that we had seen some information on dual flush toilet kits. At that time, I wrote that I’d like to give this type of kit a try. Well, just a couple of days ago, Carol had stopped into our local DIY/home store and bought a HydroRight brand dual flush kit.
After reading the instructions, the kit took about 3 minutes to install – no tools
needed. Heck, I didn’t even need to shut the water off.
What this kit does is replace the lever of the toilet with a round, 2 button, mechanism and replaces the flapper (inside the tank) with a cylinder shaped device. Now, when a full flush is not needed (liquid or paper only), you simply push the top button of the device and a quick ‘whoosh’ of water rinses the bowl. If you need the regular flush option, just hit the bottom button. The toilet will flush as it normally does.
The kit was made by HydroRight and cost about $20. They say it is proven to reduce water usage by 30%. On the farm, we did not install this kit to save money, since we have a well and do not pay for water. We bought the kit to save water… period.
Next time you are in your favorite DIY or hardware store, I urge you to take a look at this product. Give it try.
