This morning, (about a half hr ago, really), I got a call. When I looked at the number, it was a (641) area code… I had no idea where that area code was coming from. Expecting a tele-marketer, I answered it anyway.
A nice sounding gal introduced herself. She mentioned she was from Ritchie Industries and she wanted to let me know that their annual photo contest had drawn to a close. She also mentioned that the photo I had submitted earlier this summer was selected as their 2nd place winner. I was shocked, to say the least. I believe the photo below was the one that I entered. It was taken in either Jan. or Feb. of this year. It’s of our 16 yr old Scottish Highland cow, Caitlin, drinking from the Ritchie brand, frost-free waterer that I installed last year. The cattle in the background are also Highlanders. The waterer looks very short. It isn’t. Caitlin is standing on the hard snow that measured half way up the back side of the waterer.

The gal on the phone wanted to confirm the farm’s address as some of the prizes we won would/should be arriving next week. I guess the next question would be: What did I win?
I took a look on their website.

2nd Place prizes
The Second place winner will receive the following:
- $50 Ritchie Bucks Certificate
- Clinton Anderson - Fundamentals
- Clinton Anderson – Go Bridleless with Clinton Anderson
- Clinton Anderson – Problem Solving
- Ken McNabb – From the Ground Up
- Wahl Detailer
- Wahl Animal Clipper Kit
- 1 year subscription to Horse & Rider magazine
It is said to be worth $1200. Not bad. As far as I can tell, there is a lot of horse stuff in this prize package. It looks like I may be giving most of bounty to daughter Madison. She’s the only one with a horse.
