The Tire Blow'd Up

We finally recovered the Farmall H from the field from across the creek.  Carol had a few minutes to help me.  This is the same unit that I was raking hay with… up to the time the tire blew-out.  It had been sitting in the hay field since last week.

Together, we went out to simply jump-start the tractor, so I could drive it.  When we got to the  downed H, I discovered the “good” tire was low on air.  After getting the tractor started, we headed back to the farm with the truck.  We needed to get the air compressor.  Once loaded into the pick-up, back to the field we went.

We were relieved to find the tractor still running. It didn’t take long to get the tire pumped up and within moments I was ready to hit the road.  As I was limping the H back home, pieces were falling off of the tire.  I wondered if it would still be on the rim by the time a got back to the place, only a ¼ mile away.

By the time I got the tractor shut down in the yard, the tire looked pretty tough.

I am presently looking for a used tire to replace the shredded remnants of what was once a fine tire.  This afternoon, I looked at a used tire in Willmar.  It had a hole the size of my pinky finger.  No good.
