Another Task Completed Before Winter

Madison wants to move her mini-equine from their outdoor pen to their winter stalls, in the barn.  Once they come inside for the winter, we will convert that pen into a winter side pen for the sheep and goats.  This pen gets opened up to the main barnyard, giving the critters access to their auto-waterer and outdoor hay feeders.  We will then close the north door of the barn and open the east door.  This little shuffle greatly reduces the frigid winter winds from blowing through the barn as well as prevents snow from entering the barn.

To ready for this switch-a-rue, we wanted to redo the fencing of the side-pen.   In doing so, we moved the fencing panels north about 10 feet and installed new T-posts.  I figured there would be frost, but didn’t think it would be 2″-4″ deep.  It made for some hard pounding.  Usually, I curse my 25+ lb post-maul, but today, I was appreciating the weighted tool.   Once the posts got started, I could punch them through the frost fairly easy.

And… when I was done, with a little help from Carol, we thought the newly modified side-pen looked pretty good.  I even installed a small gate, for easy entrance and exits for people/individuals.  With a snow forecast for this weekend, it was a task completed just in time.
