Maybe you all can help us look for a new dog. As most folks who have had a working farm/ranch dog know, a herd dog is much more than just a dog. They become part of the family – the one family member that never complains when it’s cold outside and sees the cattle getting out as a time to play.
Two years ago, the spring of 2009 actually, we lost our beloved Duncan to a careless van-driver, who recklessly drove though our farm-yard WAY faster than she should have. Duncan was an adult dog when we adopted him. He had outgrown 2 families before joining ours. He loved herding and he loved us. He was neither aggressive, nor was he shy… but he did love to cuddle.
We have resolved that a Corgi is the right kind of dog for us. We are partial to tri-colored Pembroke Corgis and desire a female. Duncan was a boy and like most male dogs, he loved to pee on everything… and that is the only reason we desire a female this time around. My sister Regina is a veterinarian and advocates adopting…so do we. With that said, we would like to adopt a corgi that may not be fitting in with his current family. We are not against starting with a puppy, but adoption seems like the best option.
As most of you know, we have some cattle and a few sheep and goats, so we will have plenty of opportunities for a Corgi to express his/her Corgi-ness (if that can be a word).
If you think you know of a Corgi in need of a good home, please let us know. Again, adoption is a plus but we realize that most Corgis have no problem fitting in. We are not against purchasing a modestly priced puppy.
Thanks
~Rich
